Who is Jim Casey?
I have lived in the Portland,
Maine area my entire life. My career as a DJ had its
origins at a small AM radio station in Portland
while I was a Sophomore at a local High School.
From there, I worked my way through many Southern
Maine radio stations including Q97.9, Red Hot 95,
WRED, WTHT (when it was a Top 40) and what is now
Coast 93.1
I tried to break into television as well working for
WGME Channel 13 and WCSH Channel 6 in Portland as
well as managing several local Public Access TV
stations. In 1997, I started Jim Casey's DJ
Services as a sideline. As my popularity grew, I
made the decision to pursue a Mobile Disc Jockey
Entertainment career full-time (not easy in Maine).
In 2004, I decided to expand my
business to include bar/bat mitzvah services. My
company's first Mitzvah event was an eye opener.
Twenty-two boys, one girl, and only two sets of
parents. The result was controlled chaos (we made it
work) and it made me rethink whether or not to
pursue these type of clientele.
Then, in early-2005, a woman named
Natalie Ladd was referred to my service and called
me desperately searching for a Disc Jockey that
could handle her daughter's bat mitzvah celebration
that November. Unfortunately I had already booked a
Florida vacation to start that Saturday. I referred
her to other Disc Jockey companies. She called me
back a week later totally frustrated. I told her to
let me call her back in 24 hours and I would have
some more companies to call. For the heck of it, I asked my
wife if we could move our vacation to start one day
later. After about a 20 minute discussion and a
phone call to the facility in Florida, it was
decided I could do so. I called Natalie the next day and
told her I could do it. Natalie told me flat out that
I was much more expensive than other services but
was willing to pay the extra money for better
quality. Here is Natalie's letter to me the
following weekend:
"Jim: I didn't call
as I knew you were going on vacation immediately following the Bat
Mitzvah (on November 12, 2005). I am so pleased with your
understanding of our needs. The DJ (YOU!) in this particular case
was much more important than up to 50% ...
We needed an
environment where the kids could be entertained and the adults could
talk and have fun, all at the same time, in the same room. YOU
pulled it off! In addition, Alyssa's musical tastes are "unique"
and you managed to make it flow.
I am so appreciative of your professionalism and the easy,
respectful manner in which you interacted with my daughter. She
felt as if she mattered and that your cared about her. To top it
off, your games for the kids were cleverly educational and the
flashing star of David pins were perfect. I can't rant and rave
enough and am looking forward to doing it again Saturday, August 25,
2007. No doubt about it, you made the party."
Since then, I have delivered the
same type of service with the same type of results. My guess is that you have found me
as a result of the referrals within the Maine Jewish
Community or my recent ad taken out in "The Voice",
Maine's Jewish Community Newspaper.

Currently, I am a member of the Nation's first DJ organization called the
American Disc Jockey Association. Recently, I have been featured in
several publications such as Mobile Beat for my website, DJ Times for my switch
to Digital DJing, the Portland Press Herald for my membership in The Trade
Exchange and the Lakes Region Suburban Weekly Newspaper in Maine for my
expertise among others.
Yes, I am still fairly new at Mitzvah Entertainment with 15 receptions
experience as of September 1, 2006, but I do constantly train to improve my
Entertainment skills and to keep games and events fresh for the kids that might
see me more than one time. I look forward to entertaining guests at your Bar or
Bat Mitzvah celebration
